Cabassous centralis, commonly known as naked-tailed armadillo of Central America, armadillo tail cloth or molle tailed armadillo, armadillo is a species native to southern Mexico, Central America and northern South America.It has a broad face and smooth. Short tail smaller than half the length of the body and the head, the face is bare of pale pinkish-brown. Dorsal is mostly dark brown brownish, yellowish carapace edge. Long plates with square shapes somewhat rough; presence inconspicuous 10-13 mobile bands on the back. Head broad, widely spaced around the ears. On each leg has 5 claws, talons forelegs are wide and long, medium claw is very long, about half the size of the paw. An adult found in Manuel Antonio National Park, weighed 2 kg. and measured 417 mm.The range extends from Chiapas in southwestern Mexico, through Central America (Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama) to western Colombia, northwestern Ecuador and northwestern Venezuela, with altitudinal variation from sea level to 3,000 meters.
Lives in dry forests, moist.
Their diet includes lots of insects (larvae, beetles, ants), lizards and other small animals.
The main threat to their conservation is habitat loss. Annually lose thousands of acres of evergreen tropical forests due to the advancement of agriculture and livestock, throughout the Lacandon Jungle.
